Architecture Profession – What are we creating?

The following article is so interesting and definitely sheds light on how architecture has evolved since mid-century modern. Midcentury modern design was about fitting the building into its surroundings and making it holistic as oppose to laying a building on top of its environment. It seems we have geared in a different path because we want (or the industry) these buildings to be creative in an Avant-garde way however when creating a building design I feel we need to refer to the surrounds and the people. This is a component that has been lost along the way. The out of the box thinking in terms of design has been wildly received with much acclaim but to what expense? Often I’ve seen buildings and wonder, what the hell were they thinking? Who signed off on this? That building doesn’t fit in with its surroundings!
