As a New Yorker I see New York as the center for Arts/Culture, Dining, Design (all kinds) and Finance. Prior to moving to Miami I did a back of the envelope analysis regarding job demands and industry growth across the U.S. for designers. I concluded that Florida is not a heavily penetrated city regarding design so job growth/demand is not as high as other cities such as LA or San Fran. Comparing Florida to New York is out of the question…. we know who will win that. I moved to Florida for the low cost education at the master’s level and there were specific things I was looking for however after the degree and internships I’m not sure where I will end up. I’ve thought about D.C., San Fran and even going back to NY. Right now my focus is to wrap up the semester and focus on one semester at a time. I’m sure as school progresses I’ll learn more about myself and what areas I will be attracted to more so to speculate where I’ll end up is premature.
This article sheds light on the top cities for designers. Where are the key clusters and geographic centers of design in America and which are its leading design cities. It’s an interesting read….
